Gül Korkmaz, a female entrepreneur who is also a designer in Sakarya, aims to meet the housing needs of her customers around the world with the ecological, robust, modular natural wooden houses she produces.Gül Korkmaz, who operates in the construction sector, conducted R&D studies by examining wooden houses in the northern countries she visited. As a result of the studies, the company owned by Korkmaz designed 4 different models called “1+1”, “2+1 triangle”, “caravan” and “garage” and started the production of ecological, robust and natural wooden houses from spruce wood. Wooden houses suitable for the ecosystem, which can be easily built with modular construction technique, are earthquake-resistant and long-lasting, as well as providing users with different conveniences such as producing their own energy. The company, which realized its first export to the USA, prepared a project of 80 houses in Algeria, as well as continuing negotiations with many countries, aims to contribute to Turkey's exports by selling abroad.
“We use laminated spruce wood used in the masts of ships”
Gül Korkmaz told AA correspondent that the structures they produce are long-lasting and can produce their own energy. Stating that they provide services according to the customer's demand, Korkmaz said, “If he lives in a place without a grid, we produce electricity using solar panels. If there is a water problem, we harvest rainwater accordingly and we can use it. The biggest reason for its durability is the products we use. We buy the product we use as raw and imported, we process it, we produce it and this is how we ensure durability.” Korkmaz stated that they use spruce wood because it is long-lasting and flexible against burning and said, ”We cannot achieve this flexibility in other trees used. The laminated spruce used in the masts of ships is spruce wood, and we use the same system. By laminating, we bring it to 5 layers, which provides the same strength as 25-C, 30-C concrete column poles. Since it is both flexible and robust, it is long-lasting. At the same time, the panels we use are heat-treated products used in ships and yachts.” Gül Korkmaz said that they have 4 models including 1+1, 2+1 triangle, caravan and garage, but they also work on a project basis, and noted that they can enlarge or reduce the square meters according to the customer's request, families prefer 2+1, and the service sector prefers the 1+1 model. Stating that they act completely according to the customer's request, Korkmaz stated that they also provide furniture and interior decoration services and that they work on turnkey basis.
“Pandemic increased demand for isolated life”
Korkmaz stated that the products purchased as logs were given to workshops in Sakarya and employment areas were opened in this way and said, “The most important feature of our ecological, robust and naturally made wooden houses is that they are modular, demountable and very earthquake resistant. We realized our first export, but our main goal is to somehow introduce these products to the world. We have started to see serious demands. We want to work much more intensively and make a serious contribution to Turkey's exports.” Explaining that the demand for isolated life has increased due to the pandemic, Korkmaz noted that enthusiasts have started to use such houses in their gardens. Korkmaz said that they have prepared a project of 80 houses for the ministry and tourism sector in Algeria, adding that they have also held talks with countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.
